KALLE ALLÜREN
University of Applied Science Wiesbaden | design | 2000

Kalle Albert is an artistic project of the University of Applied Science Wiesbaden. Within the scope of "real" industrial surroundings to a little amount of students were given the extraordinary possibility to work in the industrial park and to reflect artistically what they have seen.

This work was honoured with the 1. Price of the best work and was shown at the exposition "Person and Industry" 25th-28th of January 2001 at the Industrial park "Kalle Albert" in Wiesbaden.

Thoughts to my work

Kalle Albert Werke - an industrial park like all the others – noise, stench, concrete constructions, machines. However, it seems differently to me than I had ever imagined. I am overpowered by the huge arrangements - the miles long tube systemes winding like snakes in the whole area, the gigantic chimneys which looks at close range like infinite streets touch the sky, or the all arounding clouds of steam and fog which changing its smell with every step. An unbelievable world of technical realities hits on the world of the bare image and touches and occupies me in a foreign and uncanny manner.
My first works (Nr. 1,4,7) dealt with this huge industrial world. They are defined by a certain idea: to capture the mood of this park as a whole. Not at least it helps me to find within the chaos the right way in the labyrinth of the infinite representation and interpretation possibilities. The apparently mystic contact with the things shows the careful touch of a visual new territory on one side and the coping of the impressions of the park on the other side.

In the second part of my work (Nr. 2,3,5,6) the aspect "person" came into. As with a microscope I followed now the things and her regulation. I outlined garbage cans, machines, levers and of course working people. Every thing, every object, every sign determines the work of the people in a manner, as that they help them to produce something, they lead and instruct them. Therefore it develops a teamwork between person and machine, between foreman and lever, between street and sign. The often comical aspect of the single moment gives to my figures and things a special character.

As well as in the first part, I call my works as "kalle°allüren" (Kalles´quirks), because not only the Kalle Albert's park as a whole with his gigantic chimneys and halls, but especially also the small things and circumstances of such a gigantic industrial park show her unconventional behaviour and "affected behaviour" in a manner quite subtle for me.
