What is the Japan Center?
The Japan Center is a cultural, academic and economic center located at the University of the Andes, which facilitates and encourages mutual understanding at the level of the citizens of Japan and Colombia. It promotes interest and facilitates the understanding of the Colombian community about the original culture of Japan. It fosters the relations of academic institutions between Japan and Colombia, fosters the transfer of knowledge in the University according to the academic offer of Japan, facilitates access to information on the activities of the private sector and promotes the cooperation of Japanese and Colombian companies in various fields.

What was the Challenge about?
The Japan Center was in need of developing its own visual identity, which not only people from the University of Los Andes, but all Colombians identify with the Japan Center. Through this challenge, 20 participants developed a visual identity that, that reflects talent and love for Japan. The challenge was to adapt the new Design to the institutional guidelines of Uniandes and at the same time express autonomy and identity of the Japan Center.

The event took place under the design challenge format, where participants had three informative talks: 1. Presentation of the challenge and the Japan Center. 2. Theoretical introduction to the topic of corporate identity 3. Explanation of the methodology for the development of the challenge. Participants explored the topic using design tools, developed and presented their proposals within 24 hours of the challenge. All results were personally presented to the Japanese ambassador and the Japan Center and selected by him and his team. The winners were hired for the later implementation of the complete design manual.
